Strolling is the most popular pastime in Bequia and there is certainly plenty to see. Wander along the quaint waterfront at Port Elizabeth with its bars, cafes and fascinating shops stopping for lunch overlooking Admiralty Bay filled with yachts twinkling in the sun. Alternatively take in a sunset atop Bequia's summit, Mount Pleasant, with its panoramic views of the island.

If you would rather rent a bicycle, jeep or motorbike, be sure to visit Paget Farm, a typical local village where the extraordinary septuagenarian Athneal Ollivierre, known as 'the Last Harpooner' lives. Or take a trip to the Spring Plantation, a 200 year old working plantation which offers a delicious Sunday curry lunch. For a different experience make sure you pay a visit to The Oldhegg Turtle Sanctuary in the rugged northeastern corner of the island, where a retired fisherman is solely responsible for tending and increasing the endangered Hawksbill turtle population.

As you would expect from an island where life is focused on the sea, there are many watersports on offer, from the usual windsurfing, diving, snorkelling and sailing to extended yacht charters, fishing expeditions and even observing and learning about traditional boatbuilding skills. The beaches are spectacular stretches of white sand and the waters are clear and safe, perfect for swimming.

There are many shops selling local arts and crafts, but don't miss a chance to sit back and take it all in outside any one of the restaurants and cafes offering excellent local cuisine at reasonable prices. The order of the day is to relax, unwind and take it easy - island style!
